Facing Your Fears As An Entrepreneur

Most entrepreneurs I have talked with have had to come face to face with their fears. I’ve had to as well. I want to share with you some of the techniques that were utilized to face and overcome them. The first step is not to be in denial. You have fears even if you don’t readily acknowledge them. They sometimes take the form of that little guy – or gal – in the back of your head that says you can’t do it.

Fear is such a huge factor in preventing people from becoming entrepreneurs. I’ve heard from the CEO of a real-estate based network marketing company that even though he has people packing into company seminars, that maybe 2-5% of them will actually go out and apply the knowledge by putting offers on real estate. He is convinced that the rest are paralyzed by fear.

Here are some of the techniques I have used as I learned them from the entrepreneurs I know:

First – Think about what you do want. When you find yourself spinning the wheels in your mind over and again about your worst case scenario, turn it around and focus on what you DO want. Visualize yourself getting what you do want. See the new house. See yourself talking to the interested person as they become a part of your business. You get what you focus on.

Second – Change the inner voice. When you hear yourself telling you that you’re not good enough – you’re going to fail, just change the voice from yours to that of Mickey Mouse or Pee Wee Herman or something else that would hold little weight with you anyway! Who cares if Mickey Mouse thinks you’re not good enough? Is Mickey Mouse an entrepreneur?

Third – Share them with a trusted friend or associate. Hopefully you have been able to find some level of support from at least one other entrepreneur. Ideally, you have a significant other that supports you. If not, then you should have some kind of support network from your team, upline, or a top producer that you can talk to. Some people may tell you that it is silly you could even believe that you’re not good enough. For me, my wife has been a constant source of support. However, don’t go looking for support from all those people who doubted you and told you it was crazy to go out on your own. They will never understand the entrepreneur.

Fourth – Have a personal development library. I draw tremendous support from my library. It is not just filled with how to resources, but also stories of others who conquered their fears. I couldn’t begin to list the many sources I have, but if you contact me I can recommend something based on your own description of your circumstances, although I am in no way a trainer or instructor.

Fifth – Go ahead and “just do it”. Sometimes just making the smallest step will help get you going enough that the fear of not doing something can go away. An example would be neglecting to write an article such as this one out of fear of failure. Just starting it can create enough momentum to see it through.

Sixth – Visualize the result, but make the action the goal. There is a subtle difference here for the entrepreneur. Of course you want the result, but maybe that’s not in your direct control. Visualize the result in your mind, but make your goal is the consistent and persistent action of the entrepreneur. Visualization and action will eventually produce the result and you can certainly achieve that goal.

Seventh – Never, ever quit! I hate to even use that q word. If you do quit, you cease to be an entrepreneur! Not quitting ensures that you’re not beaten, you are moving ahead!

Can Any Regular Joe Or Jane Be A Home Business Entrepreneur?

First, my apologies to all regular Joes/Janes who may find the use of the name offensive. That having been said, let’s get back to the question posed. Can any Regular Joe Or Jane be a home business entrepreneur? I realize you may have a different opinion than mine about this subject; but let me first say that just like a candle lights up a room, this article was written with the intention of shedding a few rays of light on the subject of home business entrepreneurship.

So my answer is “YES” every one can be a home business entrepreneur. It does not matter where you are from or your level of education. Any average guy Or gal can start his/her home business and be an entrepreneur as a result. BUT, not every regular Joe Or Jane will maintain and grow an entrepreneurial home business. This is where many people fail.

What do you need in order to be asuccessful home business entrepreneur by maintinaing your business? You will need to have qualities for home business oriented people. Below are some of these qualities that will help you to maintain, grow and succeed in your entrepreneurial home business:

1-Home business entrepreneurs are careful about money. They always know how much money they have. They know the value and cost of things so they can recognize a real bargain when they see one. That is why they can maintain their home business.

2-Most home business entrepreneurs earned money when they were teenagers whether they were babysitting, mowing lawns, delivering newspapers, sacking groceries etc., they got their patience from those experiences that will help them grow their home business.

3- home business entrepreneurs are competitive by nature. Many were active in sports and other competitions in high school and college. Others were competitive in wanting to make good grades, earn the respect of their parents and teachers and achieve their goals. This quality is very important in a home business entrepreneur.

4- Home business entrepreneurs believe in the old adage, “the early bird gets the worm.” They sleep and eat enough to maintain their energy levels but they don’t usually linger over non-productive tasks. This helps them focus important energy on growing their home business.

5- Successful home business entrepreneurs are risk-takers who trust their instincts and act on them. Taking risks can be small first steps, like placing your first ad in a mail-order publication. Without this quality, you may not even be able to start a home business, let alone growing one and being successful in it.

6-Home business entrepreneurs have a “head for home business. “They are always thinking of new ideas and new ways to make money or improve their home business. They are not afraid to put these ideas to use.

7-Home business entrepreneurs are usually loners rather than joiners. That’s one reason why the home business, mail-order business is so appealing to many entrepreneurs. They prefer a solitary work environment (home business).

8- Successful home business entrepreneurs are usually honorable people. They do business based on a handshake or a promise. They tend to form strong associations with others who share this work ethic.

9- Home business entrepreneurs do set aside time for leisure activities and family. Their principal form of relaxation is their work, but they do realize the importance of downtime and spend time with their family.

10- Home business entrepreneurs don’t retire. They may sell or change their business, thinking they will retire, but they always jump back in with a new project or get a new idea that they just can’t ignore.

11-Successful home business entrepreneurs are professionals. Whether working from their bedroom, the kitchen table or a modern, well-appointed home office, they operate just as they would if they were in an expensive office building in a major city. When they are working, they don’t let outside influences distract them.

In general, successful home business entrepreneurs are people who have high energy; feel self-confident, set long-term goals, and view money and financial security as a measure of accomplishment and piece of mind. They persist in problem solving, risk taking and learning from failures (their own and from others). They take the initiative, accept personal responsibility and use all available resources to achieve their success. Successful home business entrepreneurs compete with themselves and believe that success or failure lies within their personal control or influence.

Well, I hope this article will benefit who ever wants to start a home business. Just keep in mind that anyone can start a home business, but what differentiates between successful home business entrepreneurs and the failures are as outlined above. Take care, be well and be successful in your home business in your new role as a home business entrepreneur, whenever you’re ready to get started!
